Your Privacy and Earth Day Canada

Earth Day Canada (EDC) is committed to protecting the privacy of our members, employees, supporters and stakeholders.

In the course of delivering EDC programs focused on education, action, recognition and financial grants, we frequently gather personal information.

EDC complies with Canada's federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. The personal information we collect remains confidential and any public use of this information requires explicit consent.

Personal Information

Personal information is any information that can be used to distinguish, identify or contact a specific individual. This information can include an individual's name, age, contact information, opinions, social status and family relationships.

Exceptions include business-related information and certain publicly available information such as business address, name, title and fax. Where an individual uses his or her home contact information as business contact information, we consider that the contact information provided is business contact information.

EDC does not sell, trade or pass any personal information it collects to parties outside of EDC.

Web site and Electronic Commerce

The EDC website is operated by EDC for the purpose of education, action and recognition. It is free for use by individual web users.

Registration (free) is required to use the teachers’ section of EDC’s EcoKids web site in order to to access educational resources. Registration is also required for youth to participate in EcoMentors conferences.

Other members-only programs offered through EDC request personal information for the purposes of EDC promotions, contests and benefits and require explicit consent before being made public.

All personal information, such as e-mail addresses and financial information, collected on EDC's website is knowingly and specifically supplied to us by the website user.

EDC does not collect donations or credit card information through the EDC website. All sensitive transactions are completed in person or over the telephone or through a secure third party service. EDC does not retain credit card information after the completion of a transaction.

For web site users under 18, please be sure to obtain your parent's or guardian's permission before you send any information about yourself (your name, address, e-mail address, etc.) to us or anyone else over the Internet. We encourage parents to get involved with their children's online usage and to be aware of the activities in which they are participating.

Cookies

Like many other web sites, we use cookies to better understand how our site is used, to make sure our information and dynamic content are served correctly, and to improve the performance of our site for our users, particularly the way search pages are delivered.

EDC does not use cookies to retain personal information about our users, and we do not sell information about our traffic patterns. Aggregated site usage data may be provided to our sponsors in the form of private program reports.
